About the FlexDoc Editor

The FlexDoc Editor is a powerful tool in Joy where you can create professional and flexible documents known as FlexDocs. Quickly build rich documents featuring pages, text, images, tables, lists, AI-generated content, and more. Then, when you're ready, publish the FlexDoc to share it with your users.

Parts of the FlexDoc Editor

The FlexDoc Editor has several key parts. Being familiar with these parts will help you as you add content to your FlexDoc.

Header

At the top of the FlexDoc Editor is the header where you’ll see the FlexDoc’s name. You can quickly rename a FlexDoc by hovering over the name and clicking the Edit icon. Edit icon.

Depending on the current state of your FlexDoc, you’ll see different buttons in the FlexDoc Editor:

  • Create Draft: Visible when you haven’t made any changes to a published FlexDoc. Click this button to create an editable version of your FlexDoc where you can make changes to its contents.

  • Edit Draft: Visible when you’re viewing the published version of a FlexDoc. Click this to switch to the draft where you can update the contents. You can also use the dropdown to switch between the draft and published version of the FlexDoc.

Click the Information icon. Information icon to quickly view and edit the FlexDoc’s details. The More Actions icon. More Actions icon lets you access options to view the FlexDoc’s details, edit its settings, and assign it.

Pages tree menu

Each FlexDoc is made up of one or more pages. All the pages in your FlexDoc are listed in a tree menu, allowing you to easily scan your content and navigate quickly.

Toolbar

Use the toolbar for easy access to editing and formatting options, or to insert images, videos, and tables. You can also use it to access AI tools that will help you generate and refine your content. If it looks familiar, that’s because it’s similar to the ones in tools such as Microsoft Word and Google Docs.

If you’re using a mouse or trackpad, you can hover over any icon in the toolbar to learn what it does.

Floating toolbar

When you highlight content in the editor, a floating toolbar appears. The options displayed in the floating toolbar will depend on what you have highlighted. For example, the options when text is selected will differ from those when you have an image selected.

Slash "/" menu

Press the / key on your keyboard to display a list of useful options to quickly format your text, add images, and more.
