A task is created any time a user is assigned an asset in Joy. Put simply, a task represents something a user needs to do. You can quickly see a list of all of your tasks and the tasks you’ve assigned to others from the Tasks page.
Your ability to edit a task and its settings will depend on your permissions and who the task is assigned to.
To view a task, find the task’s card on the Tasks page. Then, click the
More Actions icon and About. This will open the task.
To make changes to the task, go to the Details tab and click the
Edit icon.
After making your changes, be sure to click the
Save icon.
Task fields and settings
When looking at a task, you will see two tabs: Overview and Details.
All of the task's editable fields and settings are found on the Details tab, organized into three sections.
The fields you can view and edit will depend on your permissions.
Basic Info
Assigned by (view only): The name of the user who created the task.
Assigned Date (view only): The date the task was created (the asset was assigned to the user).
Due Date: When the task is due.
Warning Date: When the task’s status will change to Warning. A task will appear in the warning state for a set period of time before it is due to draw the user’s attention to it.
Expected Duration (Minutes): An estimate of how long it will take to complete the task.
Actual Duration (Minutes): The actual amount of time the user spent on the task. This number will update as the user spends time in the asset associated with the task.

Manually closing a task
In some situations you may want to manually close a task. For example, imagine Joseph's role has changed and his new position no longer requires him to review a FlexDoc.
Only owners can manually close a task.
To close a task, either view the task or find the task’s card on the Tasks page. Click the
More Actions icon and select Manually Close Task.
The Manually Close Task window will appear.
Here you can enter additional details, including notes about why you are closing the task.
Override Details: Turn on this setting to reveal the following options. This setting is useful if you’re closing the task because the user completed something equivalent. If you’re closing the task because it’s no longer needed, you may want to leave this setting turned off.
Progress Stage: The stage of the task when it is closed. You can change the stage to Not Started, In Progress, or Completed.
Successful: If you change the Progress Stage to Completed, you can also decide if the task was completed successfully (Yes) or unsuccessfully (No).
Actual Duration (Minutes): The amount of time the user spent on the task.
Reason for manually closing: An explanation of why you are closing the task.
After entering any details, click Confirm to save and change the status of the task to Closed.
